“Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.”
September at The Men’s Home is centered on Step 9—a step that calls for real action and deep honesty. After all the internal work of earlier steps, this is where the past meets the present. It’s where a man steps into responsibility—not just in thought, but face-to-face.
Step 9 isn’t just about saying “sorry.” It’s about making things right—carefully, humbly, and only when it won’t cause more harm. For many residents, this step means looking back at relationships strained or broken by addiction, and asking: What can I do now that I couldn’t then?
We talk often this month about timing, about courage, and about doing what we can without expecting a certain result. Sometimes the doors open. Sometimes they don’t. But what matters is our willingness to knock.
This isn’t easy work—but it’s where the healing deepens, and where the promises begin to take root. And just like every other step at The Men’s Home, no one walks it alone.
