What We’re Talking About This Month at The Men’s Home
“Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.”
At The Men’s Home, December is about living the solution. Step 12 marks a turning point—not just in the steps, but in the entire mindset of recovery. After months of reflection, repair, and growth, the focus shifts outward: to helping others, to showing up for the community, and to practicing the principles of recovery in everyday life.
“The joy of living is the theme of A.A.’s Twelfth Step and action is its key word. Here we turn outward toward our fellow alcoholics who are still in distress. Here we experience the kind of giving that asks no rewards. Here we begin to practice all Twelve Steps of the program in our daily lives so that we and those about us may find emotional sobriety. When the Twelfth Step is seen in its full implication, it is really talking about the kind of love that has no price tag on it.
—TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p.106
God had given me a second chance, A.A. had shown me the way, and these gifts were not only free—they were also priceless! Now the joy of seeing newcomers grow reminds me of where I have come from, where I am now, and the limitless possibilities that lie ahead. I need to attend meetings because they recharge my batteries so that I have light when it’s needed. I’m still a beginner in service work, but already I am receiving more than I’m giving. I can’t keep it unless I give it away. I am responsible when another reaches out for help. I want to be there—sober.
—DAILY REFLECTIONS
At The Men’s Home, we close the year focused not on resolutions, but on responsibility. That’s what Step 12 invites us to step into. And thanks to your continued support, the men here have the structure and the community to take that next step one day, one act of service, one conversation at a time.
