Step 6 in June

Step 6: Ready for Change

“Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.”

At The Men’s Home, June is a time of quiet readiness—a pause between awareness and action. Step 6 doesn’t ask for perfection. It doesn’t demand immediate change. It asks something deeper: Are you willing?

This step, often misunderstood, isn’t about fixing ourselves overnight. It’s about becoming ready—fully, entirely, humbly—to let go of the traits that no longer serve us. Pride, fear, resentment, impatience. These aren’t just abstract words in a book. They’re daily battles. And at The Home, Step 6 becomes a living conversation: How do we prepare the heart for growth?

The Big Book speaks little about Step 6, but the Twelve and Twelve (page 65) reminds us that willingness is the spiritual cornerstone of our recovery. In meetings this month, residents explore what that really means. They ask hard questions: Am I truly ready to live without this old way of reacting? What would life look like with patience instead of anger, courage instead of fear?

Step 6 is often where theory meets resistance. We say we want to change, but we cling to what’s familiar. That’s why community matters. In a space of safety and trust, the men here witness each other’s struggles and celebrate their victories. A deep breath before reacting. A moment of stillness instead of escape.

As summer arrives, this step reminds us that transformation doesn’t begin with doing—it begins with readiness. At The Men’s Home, readiness is a sacred posture. A man might not know how to change. He might not feel brave enough today. But if he’s willing, even just a little, that’s enough to start.

And with your continued support, he doesn’t walk that road alone.
