September At The Men’s Home:

Step 9: Making Direct Amends

“Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.”

September at The Men’s Home is focused on Step 9.
After making the list and becoming willing in Step 8, Step 9 moves into action.

Making amends requires honesty, courage, and good judgment. The Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions reminds us not to delay simply because we are afraid. At the same time, Step 9 includes an important qualification: an amend should not be made when doing so would cause further harm.

That distinction matters. The purpose is not simply to clear our own conscience. It is to take responsibility for past actions and, wherever possible, repair the damage that was done.

As the Daily Reflections points out, an amend may be accepted or it may not. We cannot control another person’s response. What we can control is whether we approach the process honestly, seek guidance when needed, and take responsibility for our part.

Step 9 is about putting willingness into practice while remembering that honesty should be used to repair; not create more harm.

You can help us with our progress (not perfection).
