Step 6: Becoming Willing

“Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.”

June at The Men’s Home is focused on Step 6. After identifying patterns and taking an honest look at ourselves in earlier steps, this step asks a direct question: Am I ready to let those things go?

The Twelve and Twelve makes an important point, whether God can remove defects of character is not just theory for those who have worked the steps. For many, it becomes a practical reality.

Step 6 is centered on willingness. Not perfection, not instant change, but readiness. The Daily Reflections asks the question plainly: Am I willing to live differently? Am I ready to let go of the old self?

The Big Book is equally direct: if we still cling to something we refuse to release, we ask for willingness.

This step is less about forcing change and more about becoming ready for it. Letting go of old habits, pride, or fear is rarely immediate, but willingness is where the process begins.

You can help with our progress (not perfection).
